FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PMMI ADDS MATERIALS AND CONTAINERS MEMBERSHIP
Institute Represents Entire Packaging Supply Chain; Emphasis on Manufacturing

Arlington, VA, September 4, 2007 PMMI's General Members have voted to add a new membership category for materials and containers suppliers. With the historic vote, PMMI as a trade association now represents the entire spectrum of packaging solutions: machinery, components and materials/containers.

"The end user community is looking for total system solutions from its packaging suppliers, and PMMI will bring all of the supplier groups together within the trade association umbrella to foster collaboration and innovation development," notes Charles D. Yuska, President and CEO of PMMI.  "There isn't a single package that is brought to market today that doesn't have package design, machinery and components suppliers working together.  The common thread between the groups is their strong focus on manufacturing."

To be considered a Materials and Containers Member within PMMI, a company must manufacture commercially available materials and containers, and not manufacture packaging machinery.  The company must have been in business for two years, and have sales of $10 million or more.

PMMI General Members voted 178 for adding the new membership category, with 28 voting no to the change.  The vote represented 40% of eligible voting companies.

The primary benefits to joining PMMI will be access to other suppliers who can work together to deliver packaging innovation.  PMMI will open its meetings, conference sessions and education programming to all of its membership categories, and will develop new programming to meet the needs of its different membership types.

Materials and Containers Suppliers will also have access to customer research and buying plans studies.  Dues will be $2,000 annually.

"Our first effort will be to bring the supplier groups together, learning from each other and strenghtening their collaborative efforts, adds Matt Croson, Vice President, Member Services.  "PMMI has a 74 year tradition of being member focused and responsive to industry changes; this new membership category will allow the Institute to fully support the needs of the industry."

PMMI now has three membership categories:

General Members -- these companies manufacture packaging machinery and converting equipment in the U.S. and Canada.

Supplier Members -- these companies manufacture commercially available components such as motion control systems or vision systems.  To be eligible, they are not allowed to manufacture packaging machinery.

Materials Members -- these companies manufacture commercially available materials or containers.  To be eligible, they are not allowed to manufacture packaging machinery.

Prospective members for all three categories can submit an application under their respective supplier type via the electronic applications found at www.pmmi.org under the Join Now! tab.  For more membership information, companies can also contact Matt Croson at matt@pmmi.org or 703-516-0655.
